VERONA - Vernon-Verona-Sherrill's boys volleyball team didn't beat Living Word Academy on Monday night.

What coach Jim Burton's Red Devils did do was make the Lions of Judah sweat out their 15th straight win of the season.

Thanks to 69 assists from Andrew Irish, 31 kills by Zachary Cullen, 21 from David Mazur and 14 by Jacob Ottman, LWA remained perfect with a 25-20, 20-25, 25-18, 22-25, 25-19 win.

"Great volleyball," Burton said. "Very intense and entertaining. LWA (had) just too much offensive power down the stretch."

VVS had some of its own as Mark Dixon amassed 14 kills, Justin Smith added 12 and Jordan Johnson had nine. Shane Sullivan, Mike Blair and Ryan Matt teamed for 46 digs to keep VVS (9-3, 16-3) in numerous rallies.

    VVS (9-3, 16-3): Mike Blair 16d; Todd Brown 15as; Mark Dixon 14k, 1b; Jordan Johnson 9k, 8b; Ryan Matt 6k, 1b, 13d; Matt Sayles 4k, 4b; Justin Smith 23as, 12k, 1b; Shane Sullivan 2k, 17d.

    LWA (12-0, 15-0): Isaac Virag 3k, 1b; Zachary Cullen 31k, 4b; Adam Irish 4k; Andrew Irish 69as, 1b, 1ac; David Mazur 21k, 3b; Jacob Ottman 14k, 1ac; Joshua Laurin 1ac.
