    Oneida, VVS earn key wins

    ONEIDA - Jesse Christian served and Garrett Mutz delivered the punch in helping Oneida's boys volleyball team defeat Jamesville-DeWitt 25-9, 25-7, 25-22 on Thursday night.

    "We are playing our best volleyball at the right time," said Oneida coach Bill Carinci Jr. "We saved our best for the end of the season."

    Christian had exciting play at the net finishing with 11 kills, 10 assists, four digs and a block. Mutz had 15 kills, eight digs, two blocks and an assist and David Watson had 14 assists, five kills, three digs, three aces and two blocks for the hosts.

    "We got to go deep into the bench tonight," said Carinci Jr.

    Oneida clinched a spot in sectional play with the win.

    Colin Doran led J-D with seven kills, five assists, two blocks and an ace.

    J-D: Colin Doran 1ac, 5as, 7k, 2b; Devan Ramachandran 2ac, 1k; Tyler Grover 1ac, 1as; Mac Keefhus 2ac, 6as, 2k; Jeff Seiera 2k.

    Oneida (4-5, 8-7): Jeff Barres 1k, 1b, 2d; Blake Biggar 3d; Jesse Christian 10as, 11k, 1b, 4d; Alex Fratini 3k, 3d; Jason Lashomb 2d; Jonathan Lashomb 2as; Pat McLaughlin 1k; Aaron Meyers 1ac, 1k, 3d; Brandon Walraven 3d; David Watson 3ac, 14as, 5k, 2b, 3d; Garrett Mutz 1as, 15k, 2b, 8d.

    VVS 3, Ilion 0
    VERONA - Vernon-Verona-Sherrill's boys volleyball team continued their exceptional play with a 25-3, 25-11, 25-16 win.

    "We were able to go deep into the bench tonight," said VVS coach Jim Burton.

    Todd Brown had eight assists, five kills and two blocks and Justin Smith added 10 assists and two kills for the hosts.
